To control crop pests with pesticides and achieve the best insecticidal effect, in addition to selecting the right targeted agent and applying it at the right time, you should also pay special attention to the following two issues that are easily overlooked.

Different agents and different application methods should be chosen according to the part of the plant the pest damages, so that the pesticide is delivered to the right place.

For example, for pests that damage the roots, pour the agent onto the roots or apply it in the sowing furrow; for pests that feed on the underside of leaves, spray the solution on the reverse side of the leaves; to control the pink bollworm and the cotton bollworm, apply the pesticide to the flower buds, green bolls and terminal buds; to control the stem borer that causes dead heart seedlings, broadcast poisoned soil; to control white heads, use spray or splash application; to control the rice planthopper and the rice leafhopper, spray the solution onto the base of the rice plants; to control the tobacco cutworm, spray the solution onto the flower buds and young pods. In addition, for concealed pests such as the cotton aphid, red spider, rice planthopper and rice leafhopper, according to their piercing-sucking mouthpart feeding method, you can choose strongly systemic insecticides, which after absorption are translocated to other parts of the plant, achieving the goal of delivering the pesticide to the right place.

The pesticide should be applied at a favourable time according to the climate characteristics and the pest's day-and-night activity patterns. The suitable times for applying pesticides are from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m.

This is because after 9 a.m., the dew on the crop leaves has dried, and it is also the time when diurnal pests are most active. Applying the pesticide at this time will not reduce the control effect because the dew dilutes the solution, and it also allows the pests to come into direct contact with the pesticide, increasing the chance of the pests being poisoned. After 4 p.m., the light weakens, and it is exactly the time when flying and nocturnal pests are about to emerge. Applying the pesticide at this time can apply the agent to the crops in advance, so that when the pests come out to move or feed at dusk and at night they come into contact with the poison liquid or feed on it and die of poisoning; at the same time, it can also avoid evaporation loss of the solution and failure due to photodegradation.
