When flowers are attacked by pests, some simple homemade insecticides are effective at sterilizing and killing insects.
1. Laundry detergent solution: take 2 g of laundry detergent, add 500 g of water and stir into a solution, add 1 drop of oil, and spray it on the insects on the plants; it can kill aphids, scale insects, red spider mites, green slug moths, white butterflies, whiteflies, etc.
2. Soap solution: dissolve soap and hot boiled water at a ratio of 1:50 and spray it; it is effective against aphids and scale insects. Or use half a basin of clean water, add a little laundry detergent or rub in some soap, preferably medicated soap, stir up foam, then press the branches of the potted flower into the soapy water and rinse them, or use a soft-bristled brush dipped in soapy water to apply to the branches and leaves. After a few days, pests such as aphids, scale insects and red spider mites can be eliminated.
3. Tobacco solution: it has a strong contact-killing effect on aphids, red spider mites, ants, etc., and also has fumigant and stomach-poison effects. Take 20 g of tobacco powder or cut tobacco, add 500 g of water and soak for 24 hours, then filter. Add 500 g of 2% soapy water to the filtrate and spray it on the leaves with pests.
4. Garlic solution: treats rose powdery mildew and black spot. Take 30 g of garlic bulbs, crush them, add 500 g of water, stir well and filter, then take the filtrate and apply it to the leaf surface once a day for 3 to 4 consecutive sprays. In severe cases, a writing brush or toothbrush can be used to apply the garlic solution directly to the affected area. Inserting crushed garlic into the potting soil can also kill earthworms, ants and nematodes.
5. Welsh onion solution: mash 50 g of Welsh onion into a paste, add 50 g of water, soak for 12 hours, and spray with the filtrate several times a day for 3 to 4 consecutive days; it can treat aphids and other soft-bodied pests as well as powdery mildew.
6. Ginger solution: mash ginger into a paste, add 20 times its amount of water and soak for 12 hours, then spray with the filtrate to control leaf spot, sooty mold, rot, black-brown disease, etc., and it can also control aphids, red spider mites and leaf miners.
7. Rice vinegar solution: spray a rice vinegar solution diluted 150 to 200 times on the leaf surface once about every 7 days for 3 to 4 consecutive sprays; it can control powdery mildew, black spot, downy mildew, etc.
8. Baking soda solution: take 5 g of baking soda, first dissolve it with a small amount of alcohol, then add about 1000 g of water to make a 0.5% concentration solution, and spray the plants; it can control powdery mildew.
9. Mosquito coil: after lighting a mosquito coil, hang it on the plant with pests, cover the plant and flower pot with a plastic bag, and after 1 hour the pests are eliminated.
10. Essential balm: essential balm diluted 400 to 500 times with water can kill aphids.
11. Mothballs: after crushing, place them in the potting soil to control underground pests.
12. Potassium permanganate: potassium permanganate solution can control flower powdery mildew. At the early stage of the disease, spray with a 0.1% to 0.2% solution once about every 7 days for 2 to 3 consecutive sprays, and the effect can reach more than 92%.
13. Sichuan pepper solution: add 500 g of water to 50 g of Sichuan pepper, heat and boil, and simmer down to 250 g of medicinal liquid. When using, add 6 to 7 times its amount of water and spray to control whiteflies, aphids and scale insects.
14. Citrus peel solution: take 50 g of citrus peel, add 500 g of water and soak for 24 hours, then filter and spray the filtrate on the leaf surface to control aphids, red spider mites and leaf miners; pour it into the soil to control nematodes. Alternatively, take 1 part citrus seeds and add 5 parts clean water, soak for 4 to 5 days, then soak flower seeds in this liquid for 10 minutes; it can control many kinds of pests.
15. Bitter melon leaf solution: take 100 to 200 g of bitter melon leaves, add water and mash them, add an equal amount of lime, stir evenly, and pour it at the roots of plant seedlings to control cutworms.
16. Tomato leaf solution: mash 50 g of fresh tomato leaves, add 150 g of water and soak for 6 hours, then filter and spray with the filtrate to control aphids, red spider mites, etc.; it can also drive away flies.
17. Chili solution: take 50 g of chilies, add 10 times their amount of water, boil for 20 minutes and filter. The filtrate can control pests such as aphids, red spider mites and stink bugs, and when poured into the soil it can control soil cutworms.
