Rice stem maggot has broken out and caused serious damage in most rice-growing areas in China in recent years. At present, an insecticide for controlling pests such as the rice stem maggot has been successfully invented. The purpose of this invention is to provide a highly effective and low-toxicity insecticide specifically for controlling the rice stem maggot pest. The insecticide of this invention is prepared by mixing two agents, fipronil and imidacloprid, in a weight ratio of (1:0.1) to (0.1:1), and can be made into various formulations such as seed coating, seed dressing, suspension concentrate, powder, and emulsifiable concentrate. The advantages are: it has high insecticidal efficacy against the rice stem maggot, with tests showing an average effect of 87.5%, and application of the pesticide causes no toxic harm to humans, livestock, rice fields, beneficial insects, fish and other aquatic organisms, and no environmental pollution.
