How to choose herbicides for banana plantations?

Bananas generally grow in tropical and subtropical regions with good light and temperature conditions, and the planted area in Guangdong is relatively large. To improve production efficiency, most banana plantations in our province use chemical weed control technology. Banana growers should pay attention to the following points when choosing herbicides:

1. Banana roots are relatively shallow and have many horizontal roots. When using herbicides in banana plantations, herbicides that do not damage the roots should be considered, so as not to cause phytotoxicity to the banana root system. The herbicide Gramoxone is only effective on tissues containing chlorophyll, and banana roots do not contain chlorophyll, so Gramoxone will not harm the banana root system.

2. The stems and leaves of bananas are green. If herbicide is accidentally sprayed onto banana stems and leaves, the liquid may be absorbed and translocated throughout the whole plant, causing relatively serious phytotoxicity. The smaller the banana seedling, the more serious the phytotoxicity. Therefore, it is best to choose non-translocated herbicides such as Gramoxone.

3. Bananas grow in tropical and subtropical regions, where rainfall is especially abundant. Therefore, in order to improve weed control efficiency and reduce the number of sprayings, herbicides resistant to rain washing should be chosen.

4. In banana production management, fertilization is usually carried out after weed control. In order not to affect the fertilization plan, herbicides with quick results and reliable effectiveness should be chosen. Gramoxone is a fast-acting herbicide that shows results 1 to 2 days after application, and it can be considered for chemical weed control in banana plantations. In summary, choosing Gramoxone for chemical weed control in banana plantations can achieve the best results. Generally, use about 200 milliliters of Gramoxone per mu, mix with clean water at 250 to 300 times, and evenly spray the weeds until wet and thoroughly soaked when the weeds are 10 to 15 cm tall. The liquid should be applied with a sprayer, and it is best to install a protective shield on the nozzle to prevent the spray droplets from drifting onto banana stems and leaves and causing phytotoxicity. Applying the herbicide in the early morning or evening gives better efficacy.
