Environmental requirements for growing the "crown of vegetables", broccoli

.Light.Broccoli likes light during its growth process, but excessively strong light is also detrimental to its growth and development.

.Temperature.Within the range of5~20°C, the higher the temperature, the faster broccoli grows and develops. The optimum germination temperature is20~25°C, and the optimum growth temperature during the seedling stage is15~20℃。

.Water.Broccoli has a relatively high water requirement throughout its entire growth process, especially during the vigorous leaf growth and curd formation stages, when it must not lack water; even short-term drought will reduce yield. Excessive rain during the seedling stage or overly high soil moisture can easily cause diseases such as black rot and black spot. During the curd formation stage, the soil moisture should reach70%~80%of field capacity to meet growth needs.

.Soil.Broccoli is suitable for planting in loam and sandy loam with good drainage and irrigation, deep topsoil, loose and fertile texture, and strong water retention capacity. The optimum soilpHrange5.5~8,6is the best. During the seedling stage, the demand for nitrogen is relatively high; after flower bud differentiation begins, the demand for phosphorus and potassium increases; during curd development, the demand for trace elements such as boron, molybdenum and magnesium is also relatively high.
