Onions and bulb onions, as spice crops, are being grown on an ever-increasing area. In the production of onions and bulb onions, improper selection of herbicides often causes a seasonal yield reduction or total crop failure, and can also leave residual toxicity for the following crop. In the pollution-free production of onions and bulb onions, the skillful use of herbicides is very important.
When raising onion seedlings, 65-75 g of 50% prometryn wettable powder per mu can be sprayed diluted in 40-60 kg of water. When raising bulb onion seedlings, 100 ml of 33% pendimethalin emulsifiable concentrate per mu can be used, or 150 ml of 48% butralin emulsifiable concentrate per mu, and also 150 g of 50% herbicide No. 1 wettable powder per mu, each sprayed diluted in 50 kg of water.
For onions, after soil preparation and before transplanting, 66-72 ml of 24% oxyfluorfen per mu can be used, or 80-100 ml of 43% Hancaoling per mu, each sprayed diluted in 50-60 kg of water. For bulb onions, after soil preparation and before transplanting, 100-150 ml of 48% trifluralin emulsifiable concentrate per mu can be used, or 200 ml of 48% butralin emulsifiable concentrate per mu, and also 100-150 g of 50% Dahuili wettable powder per mu, sprayed diluted in 50-60 kg of water.
For onions, at the 3-4 leaf stage after planting, 66-72 ml of 24% oxyfluorfen per mu can be used, or 80-100 ml of 43% Hancaoling per mu, each sprayed diluted in 50-60 kg of water. For bulb onions, after transplanting, 100-150 ml of 33% pendimethalin emulsifiable concentrate per mu can be used, or 100 g of 50% linuron wettable powder per mu, sprayed diluted in 50-60 kg of water.
To improve the effectiveness of herbicides applied to onions and bulb onions, note that when raising seedlings they should be applied after sowing and before emergence. After transplanting, they should be applied after the seedlings are planted and before the weeds emerge. For onions, oxyfluorfen is prohibited within the 2-leaf stage, and should be used with caution before the 3-leaf stage. When the temperature is low, apply around noon on sunny days; when the temperature is high, apply in the morning or afternoon. Prometryn should not be used on sandy soil.
