The sugar-core apple has not been on the market for very long. Some people say the sugar-core is a new variety of apple, while others say it is not. So what exactly is the sugar-core? Where in China are sugar-core apples grown, how are sugar-core apples formed, and what is the difference between real and fake sugar-core pictures?

The sugar-core apple is a type of apple produced in Aksu, Xinjiang. Because the sugar in the core accumulates into a translucent form, creating the world's one-of-a-kind “sugar core,” it is called the “sugar-core” apple. This producing area is also China's best sugar-core producing area, and other places such as Yuncheng in Shanxi and Maowen in Sichuan also grow them.

Reasons for the formation of the sugar core: because winters in Aksu are cold, pests and diseases occur very rarely during the fruit's growth period; the temperature difference between day and night is large and sunlight is abundant; combined with irrigation from an unpolluted glacier-snowmelt river——the Kekeya River, cultivation in sandy soil, and a high-altitude growing environment, the sugar in the core of Aksu apples accumulates into a translucent form, creating the world's distinctive “sugar core.”
