The rainwater-harvesting cultivation technique of breaking the film at the planting pockets for corn shows remarkable yield-increasing effects

Pocket film-breaking rainwater harvesting
The rainwater-harvesting cultivation technique of breaking the film at the planting pockets can concentrate rainwater from around the pockets into the pockets to the greatest extent possible, so as to ensure the moisture needed for corn seedling emergence and achieve uniform and strong seedlings. This technique breaks through the limitation of traditional flat film mulching, in which rainwater spreads and runs off without being concentrated. Through rainwater harvesting in the planting pockets, compared with conventional flat film mulching, the rainfall utilization rate is increased by 3 times and the seedling emergence rate is increased by 5.9%. The effects of rainwater harvesting, drought resistance and yield increase are very remarkable. The key technical points are as follows:
1. Land preparation and bed shaping: After the previous crop is harvested, plow the land in time and sun-dry the soil clods. The bed surface is required to be level with fine soil. Make beds at 1.3 m, with a bed height of 15 cm. Make planting pockets: large row spacing 90 cm, small row spacing 40 cm, plant spacing 40 cm, pocket depth 13-15 cm. Ensure 2300—2400 pockets per mu.
2. Fertilization: Carry out fertilization according to the principle of formula fertilization, appropriately control the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied, and increase the amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer applied. Apply 1500 kg of decomposed farmyard manure and 40 kg of compound fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer; apply the farmyard manure in the center of the pocket, and apply the compound fertilizer in a ring around the pocket.
3. Film covering: Loosen the film appropriately, press the edge film firmly, and take a certain amount of soil to press down the center of the pocket, forming a pocket shape to facilitate effective collection of rainwater. Breaking the film: Use a wooden stick to pierce the plastic film at the center of the pocket, so as to help rainwater concentrate in the center of the pocket. Sow in time according to soil moisture conditions.
⟧ 4. Sowing: Select excellent medium-early maturing varieties with stable yield and a short growth period, and appropriately increase the sowing rate. Sow 2-3 seeds per pocket, with a sowing rate of 2-3 kg per mu, ensuring 4600—4800 plants per mu.
5. Intertillage management: Thin and finalize seedlings in time, apply topdressing scientifically, and carry out good prevention and control of diseases, insect pests, and weeds.
6. Harvest: Harvest in time. After the corn has truly matured, choose fine weather for harvesting, and store properly after drying in the sun.
