For post-emergence chemical weed control in maize, herbicides must be strictly selected and mixed and applied according to the instructions. In plots with severe weeds, the dosage may be increased by 15-20% above the rate stated in the instructions.

Method: for foliage treatment, it must be done before maize reaches the 6-leaf stage and before weeds reach the 2-leaf stage; otherwise the efficacy will be reduced and phytotoxicity may occur, affecting the normal growth of maize.

(1) Maize 3-5 leaf stage: 50% acetochlor emulsifiable concentrate 80-100 ml/mu, or 33% pendimethalin emulsifiable concentrate 100-150 ml/mu, diluted in 40-50 kg of water, sprayed on the soil surface between the rows.

(2) Maize 4-6 leaf stage: 40% atrazine suspension concentrate 150-200 ml/mu, or 72% 2,4-D butyl ester 60-80 ml/mu, 80% cyanazine wettable powder 100-200 g/mu, 20% fluroxypyr emulsifiable concentrate 70-90 ml/mu, 75% tribenuron (bensulfuron is not very safe) dry suspension concentrate 1-2 g/mu, diluted in 40-50 kg of water for directed spraying. Atrazine 300 g/mu, diluted in 40-50 kg of water for directed spraying.

(3) When weed infestation occurs in the late growth stage of maize: 10% glyphosate aqueous solution 400-500 ml/mu, 20% paraquat aqueous solution 100-150 ml/mu, diluted in 30-40 kg of water, for directed spraying on weed stems and leaves.

Note: a protective shield must be fitted to the nozzle to avoid phytotoxicity to the maize whorl leaves. At the same time, pay attention to personal protection and safe use of the chemicals.
