How do you prevent and control herbicide damage in corn fields? Please advise.
You can refer to the following methods for preventing and controlling herbicide damage in corn fields:
1. Causes of herbicide damage. The safety of herbicides to crops is relative; only when used reasonably and as directed are they safe to crops. In corn production, herbicides may cause damage for a variety of reasons.
1. Improper timing of application: Crops have different sensitivity to herbicides at different growth stages. Yichu and Yujingxiang are generally used at the 3-5 leaf stage of corn; below the 2-leaf stage or above the 6-leaf stage, damage is likely to occur. Yujingxiang can be applied at the 6-9 leaf stage of corn, but it should be directed spray to avoid the solution contacting the heart leaf.
2. Improper mixing: Corn treated with organophosphorus pesticides is sensitive to Yujingxiang, and the interval between the two uses should be at least 7 days.
3. Weather reasons: If corn encounters high temperatures and drought in the early growth period, the corn grows weakly, its tolerance to herbicides decreases, and damage is likely to occur. After application, low temperatures and rain with little sunlight are not conducive to corn growth and also easily cause damage.
4. Individual corn varieties are sensitive to the agents: Yichu is sensitive to the "Denghai" series varieties, and Yujingxiang is sensitive to the "Denghai" series, sweet waxy corn, and popcorn varieties. Use on these varieties is prohibited.
2. Remedial measures. Under normal circumstances, corn has strong tolerance to Yichu and Yujingxiang. When used at high doses or with local high concentrations, although slight heart-leaf yellowing may appear, it can recover and will not affect yield. If the damage is severe due to improper operation or abnormal weather, the following measures can be taken:
1. Spray water to remove toxins: Because of excessive herbicide, clean water should be sprayed to rinse the leaves of the affected plants 3-5 times. For some herbicides that are easily decomposed by alkaline substances, a diluted clean water solution of 0.2% quicklime or 0.2% sodium carbonate can be used to spray and wash the crops, reducing pesticide residue on the leaf surface.
2. Strengthen field management: In combination with watering, apply more quick-acting fertilizer to promote root development and regeneration, restore the physiological functions of the affected corn, promote healthy plant growth, and alleviate the damage; strengthen intertillage and loosening of the soil to enhance soil aeration, raise soil temperature, and enhance the root system's ability to absorb nutrients and water, so that the plants can resume growth and development as soon as possible and reduce the losses caused by herbicide damage.
3. Spray foliar fertilizer: After herbicide damage appears, foliar fertilizer should be sprayed promptly, generally once every 5-7 days, and normal growth can be restored after 2 consecutive sprays. Available products include Penwang, Xiangbala, Yuyi, etc., diluted 800-1000 times, which can promote corn cell division, root development, and restore growth.
4. Replant or switch crops in time: If the herbicide damage in the corn field is too severe and the above measures still cannot alleviate it, promptly destroy the field and replant or switch to other crops to avoid causing greater losses.
