Symptoms of Nutrient Deficiency in Summer Corn and Targeted Control Methods

If summer corn lacks trace elements during its growth and development, it will show various corresponding symptoms. Identifying corn nutrient deficiency symptoms and applying targeted scientific micro-fertilizer remedies is an important technique for high corn yields.

Corn

    I. Zinc deficiency:At the seedling stage of corn, young leaves lose their green color, turning pale yellow, producing white seedlings; the green stripes in the middle leaves of the corn are obvious, and the old leaves at the bottom are grayish brown. For zinc deficiency in corn, apply 1.5-2.0 kg of zinc sulfate per mu or spray 0.2%-0.3% zinc sulfate  solution on the leaves, spraying 3 times with an interval of 5-6 days each time.

II. Molybdenum deficiency:In the old leaves of corn, the areas between the veins lose green and turn yellow, the leaf margins scorch, curl inward, and the grains shrink. A 0.15%-0.2% ammonium molybdate solution can be sprayed on the leaves.

III. Iron deficiency:In the new leaves of corn, the veins lose green and turn yellow, while remaining green, with obvious striped patterns, and the stalks and leaf sheaths of the corn are purplish red. In this case, a 0.2%-0.3% ferrous sulfate solution can be sprayed on the leaves, spraying 3 times with an interval of 5-7 days each time.

IV. Boron deficiency:The young leaves of corn cannot unfold and turn white, gradually withering and dying. There are white stripes between the veins of the old leaves, and the plants are short and weak. Use 85 g of borax or 50-60 g of boric acid per mu, mixed with 60 kg of water, and spray on the leaves, spraying 3 times with an interval of 5-7 days each time.

    V. Manganese deficiency:Starting from the new leaves, the young leaves turn yellow, there are green spots between the veins of the corn, the leaves are soft and drooping, and the root system is thin, long and white. A 0.2% manganese sulfate solution can be sprayed on the leaves 2-3 times, with an interval of 7-10 days each time.

VI. Copper deficiency:Corn plants grow slowly and are short, the tips die off, forming clusters. The leaf color of the corn is grayish yellow or reddish yellow with white spots, and ear development is poor. Apply 1 kg of copper sulfate per mu or spray a 0.2% copper sulfate solution on the leaves.
