How to do a good job of early management of summer corn after autumn harvest crops are sown in the north

During this period, the sowing of autumn harvest crops in the north is basically complete, and corn occupies a pivotal position among autumn harvest crops in the north. As the saying goes, three parts planting, seven parts management, so how can early management of summer corn be done well?

Corn

First, check the seedlings and reseed.Because soil moisture conditions vary when summer corn is sown, some fields will show missing seedlings and broken rows. Use the method of transplanting with soil, and carefully do the work of checking and reseeding corn seedlings. Generally, when corn seedlings have 3-4 leaves, select strong seedlings, transplant them with soil promptly after rain, and strengthen management after transplanting to promote the corn seedlings to resume normal growth as soon as possible, prevent the appearance of large and small seedlings, and ensure uniform seedlings.

Second, thin and finalize the seedlings. For summer corn, thin the seedlings at the 3-leaf stage and finalize the seedlings at the 5-leaf stage. In fields with light damage from underground pests, the seedlings can be finalized appropriately earlier; otherwise, finalize them later. When finalizing the seedlings, ensure a reasonable density, and as far as possible keep seedlings whose leaves extend toward the rows and strong seedlings that are uniform and neat in height and thickness, which is conducive to ventilation and light penetration. For Zhengdan 958, the seedling density is generally about 4500 plants per mu, and for Xundan 20, the retained seedlings are generally no fewer than 4000 plants per mu.

Third, control pests. The main pest in the corn seedling stage is the armyworm. After emergence, if pest damage occurs, promptly carry out manual catching, poison bait trapping, and chemical control. Generally, apply 1% parathion granules at 1 gram per plant into the whorl per mu, or spray for control with 25% Kuishaling 1500 times solution or 20% Sumicidin 2000 times solution.

Fourth, apply jointing fertilizer. When corn has 7 expanded leaves, promptly apply jointing fertilizer, which can be applied in furrows between rows or in holes between plants and deeply buried, generally using 10 kg of urea per mu. For weak corn seedlings, apply appropriately earlier and more heavily.
