Chemical substances that can kill or inhibit the growth of certain bacteria or fungi that cause plant diseases when used at a certain dose or concentration are called fungicides.
There are two main principles by which fungicides control diseases: chemical protection and chemical treatment. Chemical protection means spraying fungicides before the crop develops the disease, to prevent the invasion of pathogens or kill the pathogens that are about to invade, so that the crop is protected. For example, spraying Bordeaux mixture on apple trees to control ring rot and anthracnose. Chemical treatment means applying fungicides after the crop develops the disease, to kill the pathogens that have already invaded or change the pathogenic process of the pathogens, thereby achieving the purpose of reducing or eliminating the disease. For example, chlorothalonil has a good therapeutic effect on cucumber downy mildew and other diseases.
According to the principles by which fungicides control diseases, fungicides are usually divided into 3 categories: protective fungicides, therapeutic fungicides and systemic fungicides.
