Celery is difficult to germinate under high summer temperatures; what should be noted for raising seedlings?
Every summer, raising celery seedlings becomes the biggest headache for many vegetable growers. Celery by nature prefers cool conditions, tolerates cold and fears heat. June and July coincide with high temperature, high humidity and strong light. Under high temperatures, celery germination is difficult, and coupled with insect pests, especially aphids and soil-dwelling insects, celery is prone to missing plants and dead plants. Raising celery seedlings in summer requires attention to the following points:

Celery seedling raising
1. Control the germination temperature. In summer, the outside temperature is high and germination is difficult, so adapt to local conditions. Keep the environmental temperature for celery germination at 15-20°C, and after about 10 days it will germinate.
2. Prevent continuous cropping and soil compaction.Continuous cropping or soil compaction is caused by two aspects: first, the seedbed soil quality is poor; and second, insufficient bottom water and low humus content. Therefore, choose a plot with loose, fertile soil rich in organic matter to build the celery seedbed.
3. Use fertilizer scientifically.Applying too much nitrogen fertilizer causes leggy seedlings, thin and pale leaves, and few roots. When the temperature is too high, the respiration of celery seedlings increases, more nutrients are consumed, weak seedlings easily appear, and seedlings die.
4. Shade sunlight and protect from rain. The high temperature, strong light and heavy rain of summer hinder celery emergence, so seedlings should be raised with shading and rain protection.
5. Control soil-dwelling insects. To control mole crickets and other soil-dwelling insects, fry wheat bran until fragrant, add 90% trichlorfon powder, mix well to make poisoned bait, and scatter it around the seedbed.
6. Strengthen seedling-stage management.Generally after sowing, keep the celery seedbed temperature at 15-20°C and the soil relative humidity at about 85%, and full emergence can be achieved in 8-10 days. After full emergence, first thin out double plants; 10 days later, thin a second time to a seedling spacing of 1-1.5 cm; one month later, thin a third time to a seedling spacing of 5 cm. The thinned celery seedlings can be transplanted separately at a plant spacing of 5 cm, and watered after planting, saving seeds and seedlings. During the celery seedling stage, the soil must be kept moist and the temperature and light environment suitable.
