Summer cucumber plant death is a common problem, how can it be prevented?
Cucumber plant death is a problem frequently encountered in summer cucumber management. There are many causes of summer cucumber plant death, but the main cause is poor root systems leading to a reduced ability of the cucumber to absorb water and nutrients, which cannot meet the growth needs of the cucumber, resulting in summer cucumber plant death.

Cucumber plant death
I. Causes of root nutrient deficiency
1. Insufficient nutrients. Summer temperatures are high and cucumbers grow quickly. If too many cucumbers are left on the plant, it easily causes the plant's photosynthetic products to be unable to meet the growth needs of the cucumber; in addition, some farmers leave shade nets covering all day long, which easily weakens plant photosynthesis and causes insufficient organic nutrients, leading to slow root growth and few roots.
2. High temperatures. The suitable temperature for cucumber root growth is 20-25°C, while in summer the temperature is often above 30°C. This high-temperature environment is not conducive to cucumber root growth and easily causes aging.
3. Poor soil aeration. During cultivation and management, farmers often repeatedly walk along the same operation path, causing soil compaction; in addition, excessive watering, among other things, causes insufficient oxygen in the soil, so the roots cannot carry out normal respiration, leading to root rot and plant death.
4. Root diseases. Root diseases weaken the plant's growth ability and cause wilting and death. Such as damping-off, root rot, root-knot nematode disease, etc.
II. Control methods
1. Leave an appropriate number of cucumbers to balance the nutrition of the cucumber plant. It is recommended that for large cucumbers, leave 1 cucumber every 2-3 leaves, and for small cucumbers, leave 1 cucumber every 2 leaves or 2 cucumbers every 3 leaves.
2. Reduce the shading time of the shade net and avoid shading all day. According to weather changes, during high-temperature weather, provide shade from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, and do not shade during the rest of the time.
3. Water frequently with a small amount. This avoids drought while also taking soil aeration into account, ensuring normal respiration of the cucumber roots. If conditions permit, drip irrigation or micro-irrigation can be used, which both saves water and reduces the occurrence of disease.
4. Apply rooting agents by drenching. Especially rooting agents that promote the growth of cucumber fibrous roots, such as Genduole, etc.
5. Use chemicals to prevent disease. On the one hand, chemicals such as hymexazol, metalaxyl, and zhongshengmycin can be used together with rooting agents to irrigate cucumber roots; on the other hand, drench Tongjia, Youjikang Diling microbial agents, etc. to prevent and control the occurrence of cucumber root diseases.
