Tomatoes are prone to deformities and poor appearance when lacking fertilizer; how can the three-stage topdressing of tomatoes be done well

Whether grown in open fields or in protected cultivation, tomatoes often suffer from phosphorus and potassium deficiency due to incorrect timing of fertilization, leading to symptoms such as weakened plants and deformed fruits, resulting in low yield, poor quality and poor returns. Therefore, throughout the entire growth period of tomatoes, fertilization should be applied at the right time during the planting stage, the seedling-strengthening stage and the fruiting stage according to the growth characteristics of tomatoes, so as to ensure high quality and high yield of tomatoes.

Tomato fertilization

Applying sufficient base fertilizer at the planting stage:Before transplanting tomato seedlings, per mu (667 sq m) apply 1000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure, 10 kg of urea, 10 kg of ammonium phosphate, 40-50 kg of superphosphate; or apply 1000 kg of high-quality soil and miscellaneous manure, 25-50 kg of potassium sulfate three-element compound fertilizer, and 10 kg of urea.

Fertilization at the seedling-strengthening stage:When tomato seedlings grow to 5-6 leaves, if the leaf color becomes pale, foliar spraying can be applied. Commonly used fertilizers: 300 times urea solution, 300 times monopotassium phosphate solution, 500 times Hexin liquid fertilizer, 0.1-0.3% potassium sulfate compound fertilizer solution. During the seedling-strengthening stage, spray once about every 10 days. Foliar spraying can be combined with pest and disease control.

Timely topdressing at the fruiting stage:When the diameter of the first tomato fruit grows to 1.5-2.5 cm, apply topdressing and watering; generally per mu of tomatoes use 15-20 kg of ammonium nitrate and 20-30 kg of superphosphate; or use 5 kg of urea and 10-20 kg of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer, broadcast on the ground, then washed in with water. When the second and third tomato fruits grow to a diameter of 3 cm, carry out the second and third fertilization and watering; per mu of tomatoes use 10 kg of urea and 15-20 kg of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer, with the same fertilization method as the first time. During the full fruiting period, foliar spraying can be carried out in combination with pesticide spraying, and fertilizers such as monopotassium phosphate, Hexin liquid fertilizer and superphosphate can be sprayed, which is beneficial to the coloring of tomatoes and the improvement of quality.
