What should be noted for chemical weed control in summer corn? Please provide guidance.
For chemical weed control in summer corn, you can refer to the following methods:
Match the herbicide to the weeds. The choice of herbicide should be determined by the weed species and the timing of application. For corn fields dominated by crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtail, lambsquarters, amaranth and smartweed, you can choose 150~200 ml of 40% acetochlor-atrazine suspension or 41% Yucaoling, or 150 ml of 50% Du'a mixture, applied after sowing and before emergence, no later than the 2-leaf stage of the weeds. You can also choose 60 ml of 4% nicosulfuron, applied at the 3~5-leaf stage of the weeds.
Strictly control the application rate. At present, there are many types of corn field herbicides, with varying contents of active ingredients and different application rates. When using them, you must strictly control the application rate, and avoid using too much or too little, so as to ensure the weed control effect without affecting the growth of corn and the following crop.
For fields with high wheat stubble, the application rate should be appropriately increased. For mechanically harvested wheat fields, the wheat straw and wheat chaff in the field should first be removed, then the herbicide should be used with an appropriately increased application rate. Generally, for fields with flat wheat stubble, the recommended minimum rate can be used, while for fields with high wheat stubble, the recommended maximum rate can be used. However, the application rate must not be increased arbitrarily, to prevent affecting the growth of corn and the following crop.
In case of drought, water first and then apply the herbicide. In dry years, you should water first and then spray, and the ground should preferably be moist when spraying, so as to help form a herbicide film on the ground.
Apply at the right time. The application time should be reasonably determined according to the suitable period for the herbicide used, to prevent spraying too late and affecting the efficacy.
For corn fields with large weeds, immediately after sowing corn, spray the ground with 20% paraquat to kill the large weeds, then spray a corn-specific herbicide.
Increase the amount of spray solution. Generally, the amount of spray solution per mu is required to be 30~40 kg. For corn fields with high wheat stubble and in years with dry climate, it should be kept at 40~50 kg, and the ground should remain moist after spraying.
Apply the herbicide correctly. First, the herbicide should be mixed into a stock solution; for suspension concentrates, shake well before use. When spraying, it is best to walk backward while spraying, and the spraying time should be before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. in windless weather. Spray evenly, do not spray twice over the same area, and do not miss any area.
