Chlormequat is a broad-spectrum plant growth retardant, and its main physiological functions are: 1) inhibiting excessive vegetative growth and cultivating strong seedlings; 2) delaying the senescence of stems and leaves and postponing maturity; 3) inducing flower bud differentiation; 4) controlling apical dominance, reshaping the plant architecture, making the plant compact with a well-developed root system, deeper leaf color and thicker leaves, thereby improving the crop's drought resistance, cold resistance and saline-alkali resistance. It can shorten the plant's internodes, making the plant grow short, sturdy and thick, and resistant to lodging. This improves the fruit-setting rate of certain crops, improves quality and increases yield.
Chlormequat can effectively control excessive growth in peanuts and increase peanut yield, and it degrades very quickly within the plant; after entering the soil it can be rapidly decomposed by soil microorganisms, with no adverse effect on subsequent crops. At the same time, it also plays a positive role in protecting good soil structure, maintaining soil ecological balance and sustaining high yields. Therefore, chlormequat is currently the first-choice agent suitable for use on peanuts to control excessive growth and promote pod setting.
The application period should generally be about 50 days after peanut sowing, using a 50% aqueous solution diluted 1000 to 5000 times and sprayed evenly on the leaves. When applying, the dosage should be adjusted according to the peanut population's growth vigor and the fertilizer and water conditions. When peanut plants in high-yield fields show excessive growth, close the rows too early, or the field becomes dense and closed, chlormequat should be sprayed promptly to inhibit excessive growth; especially when the peanut base fertilizer is sufficient, there is drought in the early growth stage, and heavy rainfall occurs during the peak flowering and pod-setting stage, causing vigorous excessive growth, even more attention should be paid to timely application. However, for fields with weak seedlings, poor growth or poor soil fertility, do not use the agent, because applying it will make the peanuts even more fragile.
