What should be noted when using seed coating agents? Experienced netizens, please help explain.Seed coating agent is a seed dressing agent containing pesticides, micronutrient fertilizers, plant growth hormones and other ingredients that is evenly coated onto the seed surface through mechanical processing. It can effectively prevent and control seedling-stage pests and diseases, supplement nutrients, and promote seed rooting and germination, achieving the goal of full and strong seedlings.
Zhongdiwang has compiled the precautions for seed coating agents, listed below for netizens' reference.
Precaution 1: Coated seeds are generally highly toxic and can only be used as seeds; they must absolutely not be eaten or used as feed. Coated seeds should be stored in a dry, cool, ventilated place, and children, livestock and poultry must be strictly kept from contact with or accidental ingestion of them. If livestock or poultry die from accidental ingestion, they should also be buried deep underground and must absolutely not be eaten; even the seedlings thinned out after coated seeds sprout must not be used to feed livestock or poultry, to avoid poisoning.
Precaution 2: When sowing coated seeds, wear protective clothing and protective gloves; children must not participate in sowing. Do not eat, drink, smoke or wipe your face with your hands while sowing; immediately wash your hands and face with soapy water after sowing.
Precaution 3: Polypropylene woven bags should be used as packaging bags for coated seeds; it is best not to use burlap sacks, to avoid toxic burlap fibers flying up and being inhaled by people or livestock and causing poisoning. After use, packaging bags should be burned or buried deep, and it must be strictly prevented that they are mistakenly used to hold grain and food. Utensils used to hold coated seeds must be thoroughly washed before use. The water used to wash these utensils must absolutely not be poured beside rivers, ponds and wells; it can be poured in fields or around tree roots.
Precaution 4: Coated seeds are not suitable for soaking to promote germination. This is because the seed coating agent, after dissolving in water, may inhibit seed germination.
Precaution 5: Coated seeds are not suitable for use in low-lying, waterlogged land and saline-alkali land. Under high-moisture soil conditions, coated seeds are highly prone to rancidity and rotting; in saline-alkali land, the seed coating agent decomposes and loses effectiveness when it encounters alkali. Coated seeds should not be used in fields with a pH value greater than 8.
Precaution 6: Coated seeds should not be used at the same time as herbicides such as propanil; propanil can only be used 30 days after sowing. If propanil is used first, then sowing must wait 3 days, otherwise phytotoxicity is likely to occur or the effectiveness of the seed coating agent will be reduced.
