Horn peppers suffer from many diseases, so prevention is the priority: control methods for seven diseases and four pests of horn peppers

Common diseases of horn peppers include damping-off, Rhizoctonia rot, early blight, late blight, bacterial wilt, anthracnose and viral disease; pests include tobacco budworm, leafminer, aphids and thrips. Pest and disease control in horn peppers should follow the principle of "prevention first, integrated control". The following describes how to use pesticides for pest and disease control in horn peppers:

Bacterial wilt of peppers

    1. Damping-off: for early prevention, use carbendazim + zineb at 600 times dilution or Bordeaux mixture; after peppers develop the disease, spray with carbendazim, phosethyl-Al or chlorothalonil, once every 7 days, for 2-3 consecutive times.

    2. Rhizoctonia rot: disinfect the seedbed with dexon or carbendazim; in the field, use validamycin or propamocarb aqueous solution + Qingkuling or Guangkuling and other agents for control.

    3. Early blight: control with chlorothalonil, iprodione, metalaxyl-mancozeb, sandofan and other agents.

    4. Late blight: when diseased plants are found, pull them out promptly and burn them in a concentrated pile or bury them deep; spray with 64% sandofan wettable powder at 800 times dilution or 58% ridomil at 800 times dilution, or use shuangmeiyijing or mancozeb at 600-800 times dilution for control.

    5. Bacterial wilt: pull out and burn diseased plants; adjust soil pH and pour limewater into the planting holes; spray with agricultural streptomycin or keshade, or drench the roots with dexon, Qingkuling or validamycin.

    6. Anthracnose: alternately spray with thiophanate-methyl at 500 times dilution, 10% shigao at 800 times dilution or 65% zineb at 600 times dilution.

    7. Viral disease: alternately use 20% bingdubike at 500-800 times dilution and 1.5% zhibingling at 800 times dilution, spraying once every 7-10 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays. At the same time, pay attention to controlling aphids to reduce virus transmission and spread.

The pests of horn peppers include tobacco budworm, leafminer, aphids and thrips, 4 kinds in total. For tobacco budworm, spray with 1.8% abamectin emulsifiable concentrate at 3000 times dilution or 5% yitaibao emulsifiable concentrate at 2500 times dilution; for leafminer, alternately control with 1.8% abamectin emulsifiable concentrate at 3000 times dilution or wanling at 1000 times dilution; for aphids and thrips, spray with imidacloprid at 1000 times dilution, or drench the roots with 90% trichlorfon at 800 times dilution.
