Winter greenhouse vegetable watering methods: improper watering makes plants prone to freeze damage
Temperature regulation in winter greenhouses is the most important thing for vegetables, but some vegetable growers pay attention only to air temperature and neglect soil temperature. Watering in winter in particular tends to lower soil temperature, which can cause some damage to the root system and affect greenhouse vegetable growth. Therefore, in cold low-temperature weather, pay attention to the following points when watering vegetables in the greenhouse:

Greenhouse vegetable watering
1. Irrigate with small amounts of water or use spraying. At low temperatures, vegetables in the greenhouse evaporate slowly and need less water, so the amount of water applied should be small and the interval can be extended. Never flood-irrigate, to avoid root rot caused by low temperature and high humidity. In the first two days after watering, humidity in the greenhouse increases, so ventilate reasonably to reduce humidity and prevent disease outbreaks. Ventilation is generally best done at noon when the temperature is higher.
2. Arrange watering time reasonably. In winter, greenhouse vegetables should be watered around noon, preferably after 10 a.m. and before 3 p.m., since greenhouse temperature is higher during this period and the side effects of watering are minimal. Avoid watering in the early morning and at dusk to prevent freeze damage to the vegetables. Use well water for watering whenever possible, because well water has a higher temperature and can reduce shock to the vegetables.
3. Water flexibly according to the weather.Based on weather conditions, follow the principle of "water appropriately more on sunny days, water less or not at all on cloudy days, and never water during windy and snowy days." When the weather turns from sunny to cloudy, the amount of water should gradually decrease and the interval should be appropriately lengthened; when it turns from cloudy to sunny, the amount of water should go from small to large and the interval should correspondingly shorten.
4. Watering should be focused appropriately:Temperature varies greatly among different parts of the greenhouse, so the amount of water applied should also differ. In the southern part of the greenhouse and near heat sources such as stoves and flues, soil moisture and evaporation from nearby vegetables are greater, so the amount of water can be appropriately larger; on the east and west sides and in the northern part of the greenhouse, temperatures are lower and sunshine duration is also shorter, so the amount of water can be appropriately smaller.
