Balcony chives are convenient to harvest and pollution-free; key points for winter management of potted chives

Move chives onto your own balcony and build a small vegetable garden. This can exercise the body, beautify the environment, and cultivate the mind, while also letting you taste pollution-free chives you have grown yourself, with a distinctive flavor. Chives placed on the balcony in winter need attention to the following points in management measures:

Potted chives

    1. Temperature.Chives like cool conditions and tolerate low temperatures. The suitable growing temperature is 12-23°C. Keep chives indoors at about 20°C for management, with a day-night temperature difference of 7-8°C. Note that the temperature must not exceed 30°C or fall below 8°C.

    2. Humidity.Chives like moisture but do not tolerate waterlogging. Generally, soil moisture is 80%-90% of the maximum field water-holding capacity, and the suitable relative air humidity is 60%-70%. For potted chives on a balcony in winter, keep the soil surface in the pot moist and water as soon as it dries.

    3. Light. The growth and development of chives require medium-intensity light, and they also have strong shade tolerance. The suitable light is 122-40000 lux. When cultivating chives on a balcony in winter, supplemental lighting can be used during long periods of cloudy weather.

    4. Topdressing. For home balcony chive cultivation, there is no need to apply any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Topdressing is mainly based on kitchen waste, such as rice-washing water, leftover milk, leftover soy milk, leftover beer, etc. Topdressing should not be too much or too frequent; generally apply once every 10-15 days.
According to the above management methods, chives can generally be harvested in about 25 days.
