Root-knot nematodes have a fairly wide host range, often damaging more than 30 kinds of vegetables including cucurbits, solanaceous fruits, legumes, radishes, carrots, lettuce, and Chinese cabbage. Therefore Zhongdiwang has compiled the harm and control methods of root-knot nematodes, listed in detail below for gardeners' reference.

       Harm caused by root-knot nematodes:
Root-knot nematodes mainly damage the roots of various vegetables. After the roots are damaged, the plants grow poorly, with increased fibrous roots and lateral roots, and spherical or conical galls of varying sizes form on the roots. The galls are initially white and soft in texture, later turning brown to dark brown. The above-ground parts of affected plants grow short and slow, with abnormal leaf color, few fruits, and low yield, and may even cause the whole plant to wither and die.

       Control methods for root-knot nematodes:

Method one:Use the contact nematicide fenamiphos: apply 3000-5000 grams of 10% granules per mu into the soil along with crop sowing, or apply it into the soil near the roots during the crop growing period.

Method two:Use the contact nematicide ethoprophos: apply 3.5 kg of 20% granules per mu diluted with water into or sprayed onto the soil. (Note that ethoprophos must not come into direct contact with crop seeds, as it easily causes phytotoxicity.)

Method three:Use the fumigant nematicide metam-sodium: use 3 kg of 35% aqueous solution per mu, diluted with 300 kg of water, open furrows half a month before sowing and pour the solution in, then cover with soil; sowing can only be done after 15 days.

Method four:Use the fumigant nematicide dazomet: apply 11 kg per mu by application or furrow application, and cover with soil immediately after application to effectively kill nematodes.
