What are the effects of thifensulfuron-methyl? How is it used? We ask knowledgeable readers to help explain.

On the market, thifensulfuron-methyl wettable powder herbicides at 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 75%, as well as a 75% thifensulfuron-methyl aqueous solution herbicide, are commonly seen. Many readers are still not very familiar with thifensulfuron-methyl herbicide, so Zhongdiwang has compiled the effects and application methods of thifensulfuron-methyl herbicide, listed in detail below for readers' reference.

       Effects of thifensulfuron-methyl:
Thifensulfuron-methyl is a systemic, translaminar, post-emergence selective herbicide. After thifensulfuron-methyl herbicide is applied, it is absorbed by plant leaves and roots and rapidly translocated within the plant, causing the plant to die within 1 to 3 weeks after treatment. It has strong tolerance in cereal crops.
Thifensulfuron-methyl decomposes rapidly in soil and is harmless to subsequent crops after 30 days; thifensulfuron-methyl can be used on crops such as wheat, barley and corn to control broadleaf weeds.

Weeds that thifensulfuron-methyl herbicide can control include redroot pigweed, purslane, cleavers, speedwell, flixweed, Malachium aquaticum, shepherd's purse, summer cypress and spring smartweed, but it is ineffective against field bindweed, thistle and grass weeds.

        Application methods of thifensulfuron-methyl herbicide:
       1. For controlling weeds in wheat and barley fields: from the 2-leaf stage to before booting of wheat and barley, when broadleaf weeds have 2 to 4 leaves, use 1.7 to 2.7 grams of 75% thifensulfuron-methyl water-dispersible granules per mu, mixed with 30 to 40 kg of water, and spray on weed stems and leaves. (To increase efficacy, 0.2% non-ionic surfactant may be added.)

        2. For controlling weeds in corn fields: when corn has grown to the 3 to 7 leaf stage and broadleaf weeds have 2 to 4 leaves, apply for control. Use 0.7 to 1.3 grams of 75% thifensulfuron-methyl water-dispersible granules per mu; in Northeast China, the dosage may be increased by 0.5 grams. Mix with 30 to 40 kg of water and spray on the weeds.

         Precautions for using thifensulfuron-methyl herbicide:
         1. Because thifensulfuron-methyl herbicide has high activity, the dosage required is small. It should be used according to the application methods, and the dosage must never be increased carelessly.
         2. The 75% thifensulfuron-methyl wettable powder should be used at most once on corn, wheat and broadleaf weeds.
