Boost the Second Flush and Increase Yield: Fertilizing Tips for Higher Edible Mushroom Production

By the middle and late stages of fruiting, edible fungi have consumed a large amount of nutrients. To boost the second flush, appropriate topdressing is necessary, which can increase yield. Mushroom growers can adopt the following measures to achieve a yield increase.

Edible fungi

    1. Edible mushroom soup: Wash the mushroom stems and broken mushrooms cut off during processing, slice them thinly, add 1—1.5 kg of water per kg of material, boil for 15 minutes, take the filtered juice, add 10—15 kg of water, and spray it on mushroom trays or bags. Used at the peak of fruiting, it can make the fruiting bodies thick and plump and prolong the fruiting peak.

    2. Soybean milk fertilizer: Take 1 kg of soybeans, soak them in water, grind them into soybean milk, filter out impurities, add 50 kg of cool boiled water, stir evenly, and spray. It can make edible fungi white and sturdy.

    3. Salt water fertilizer: Take 0.5 kg of table salt, add 50 kg of cool boiled water, and spray at the peak of fruiting. It can make the mushroom bodies pure white.

    4. Cow manure and urine: Take fresh cow manure and urine and boil until the foam disappears, dilute with 7—8 times cool boiled water, and spray once every 2—3 days, just enough to moisten the trays and bags. If there are young mushrooms, spray once with clean water after application. It can promote the growth of young mushrooms.

    5. Chicken manure fertilizer: Add 20 kg of water to 5 kg of chicken manure, boil and take the juice, then add 100 kg of water for spraying. It can increase mushroom yield.

    6. Plant ash extract: Soak 12.5 kg of plant ash in 25 kg of water, then filter and spray. It can prevent edible fungi from turning red.

    7. Spraying chemical fertilizer solution: Use a 0.1%—0.2% urea solution and spray once every 2—3 days; spray a 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution. It can make the mushroom bodies thick and plump and increase yield by 15—20%.

    8. Rice washing liquid: Take 100 kg of rice washing liquid, clarify it, take the clear liquid on top, add 1 kg of glucose, and begin spraying 3—4 days after harvesting mushrooms. It can significantly increase yield.

    9. Pine needle fertilizer: Take 1 kg of fresh pine needles, add water and boil for 20 minutes, filter out the residue, add 15 kg of water, and spray. It can make the mushroom bodies plump.

    10. Carrot juice: Chop 10 kg of carrots, add 15 kg of water, boil for 15 minutes, filter and take the juice, dilute with 40 times water, and spray. It can increase edible fungus yield by 10—15%.
