To grow yams well, strengthening water and fertilizer management is key

    During the cultivation of yams, improper fertilizer and water management often leads to waterlogging or drought; when nutrient supply cannot keep up during the growing period, yam yields are severely reduced, directly affecting production.

    1. Timely topdressing in the late growth stage is most important. Topdressing is mainly done in the middle and late growth stages, as less fertilizer is needed in the early stage. To ensure high yam yields, generally apply topdressing 2 to 3 times. In the late growth stage, spray the foliage with Diguo Zhuangdiling plus 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 1% urea to ensure sufficient nutrients for tuber elongation and expansion. By spraying "Diguo Zhuangdiling," the large nutrient supply needed during the flowering and fruiting period can be met, the nutrient transport ducts in the underground part are thickened, nutrient delivery is increased, and the expansion speed of underground fruits is raised, all while being efficient and non-toxic.

    2. Controlling water balance is key. The aboveground part of the yam likes high temperatures and dryness, fears frost, fears waterlogging, and is also unsuited to drought; if it is too dry, the expansion of the yam will be seriously affected. Watering time is roughly from mid-April to late May, during which a thorough watering is generally given about every 10 days; after late May, watering should be done appropriately according to soil moisture. Too much watering can also easily cause rust disease, leading to early leaf drop and affecting root yield. It is recommended that farmers spray yams with the plant protectant Xin Gao Zhi Mo, which forms a protective film on the leaf surface, praised as a "transparent plant health garment," disinfecting and preventing disease, resisting drought and dry hot winds, and resisting waterlogging disasters. This product works physically and will not produce drug resistance.

    When planting yams, special attention should be paid to the management work of the above two points, increasing nutrient delivery and enhancing the resistance of yams, so that high-quality yams can be produced and economic income increased.
