With just 1 cup, learn how to grow a kitchen full of vegetables!

Everyone wants a vegetable garden, but the trouble is having no time and no space. Don't worry, today I'm introducing 6 vegetables you can grow directly in water, with just one cup and one vegetable root!

  1. Scallion

The small scallions we usually use for stir-frying are a very easy-to-regrow vegetable. First wash the scallion roots clean, trim off the overly long root sections, then cut them off about three or four cm above the roots and put them in a prepared cup, adding water to cover the roots.

Then place it in a spot with plenty of light to grow in water, changing the water about every 10 days. After a few weeks new scallion leaves will grow. Keep it on the kitchen windowsill and you can harvest it anytime~

  2. Napa cabbage

Winter is exactly the season for eating napa cabbage. Put the cut-off napa cabbage base in a bowl or cup, add a little clean water, and that's it. Change the water often afterward, and in three or four days you'll see new leaves sprouting from the cabbage base. Once grown, you can pick and eat them directly. If you let it keep growing, it can even flower and set seeds.

  3. Cilantro

The cut-off cilantro roots, washed clean and grown in water, will also produce green leaves after a few days. To get enough cilantro, you can wait until the leaves grow to two or three cm, then replant the cilantro in a flower pot, so the soil can provide it with more nutrients and it will grow faster.

  4. Celery

It's a shame to throw away celery roots, because they also grow quickly in water. Put the water-grown celery root in a warm spot with plenty of light, and in about a week tender leaves will grow. Then plant the celery root in loose, fertile soil, and next you'll find it quickly grows into a small potted plant!

  5. Carrot

Carrot leaves are generally not eaten, but admiring them as a potted green plant is quite pleasing, especially in winter when all the leaves have fallen, making it look even more full of life.

When growing a carrot top in water, make sure it is three or four cm tall, so it can provide enough nutrients for leaf growth. Add water to cover one-half the height of the carrot top, put it near a window, and beautiful leaves will soon grow.

  6. Lettuce

Add a few lettuce leaves when grilling meat, and you can eat a few more pieces! Grow a few at home, and whether for salad or grilled meat, it couldn't be more convenient. Put the lettuce root in a cup with water, and after new leaves grow, transplant it into a flower pot. It will quickly grow into a big pot, much faster than sowing seeds!

Alright, that's all for today from Huaye. Grow the vegetable roots from your everyday cooking in water, and soon you too can have a mini vegetable garden!
