Supporting regulations for the Food Safety Law are being drafted
Zhang Yong, director of the Office of the State Council Food Safety Commission, recently revealed at the Second (2010) China Food Safety High-Level Forum that, in accordance with the Food Safety Law, China is sorting out and revising existing rules and regulations, drafting supporting laws and regulations, and will strengthen the development of the food safety standards system.
Jiang Zengwei, Vice Minister of Commerce, said at the Second China Food Safety High-Level Forum that this year the Ministry of Commerce will begin pilot work on building food safety and credit systems, forming a traceability mechanism, and will take the lead in about three years in establishing, in 36 major cities and some other cities with the necessary conditions nationwide, a circulation mechanism and system for meat and vegetables whose sources can be traced, whose destinations can be verified, and whose responsibilities can be pursued. Wang Lu, deputy director of the Credit Reference Center of the People's Bank of China, said it is necessary to give play to the restraining role of the bank credit reporting system over food enterprises. This credit reporting system can enable banks to understand more comprehensively the credit situation of their credit counterparties, and plays a very positive role in helping regulatory authorities exert greater regulatory force, among other aspects.
