New-season wheat is in the grain-filling stage, old-crop wheat prices remain stable
In May 2015, new-season wheat was in the critical period of yield formation; the wheat production situation will have an important impact on the domestic wheat market in the new year, and will also become an important basis for whether the minimum purchase price policy for domestic wheat can be activated this year and the scope of its activation. Under the new market environment, what changes will occur in the mindsets of market entities such as farmers, trading enterprises, processing enterprises and warehousing enterprises? How the state sets the tone for this year's purchase policy has become the focus of attention for entities at all levels of the market.
To this end, China Grain Network will organize the "2015 Main Producing Areas Wheat Production Survey" activity, which is divided into two routes, south and north. The southern route heads to major producing areas such as Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong; the northern route is a self-organized survey route, heading to major producing area cities in northern Henan, Hebei and Shandong, conducting in-depth research on wheat growth conditions, the demand situation of processing enterprises, wheat market circulation, and the purchasing and selling mindsets of market entities, so as to provide reference for customers to grasp later market trends and determine purchasing and selling strategies, and to help all parties in the market strengthen communication and increase opportunities for cooperation.
On May 11, the northern route survey team of China Grain Network set out from Zhengzhou, passing through Kaifeng - Lankao - Heze - Yanggu. Currently, the wheat along the route is in the grain-filling stage, and pests and diseases have been effectively prevented and controlled. At present, soil moisture is good, with scattered lodging in a few plots, which has little impact on yield, and it is expected to be marketed in more than 20 days.
At Shilipu in Kaifeng, we saw that cultivated land near the city has shrunk considerably. More cash crops are planted along the roadside and less wheat, with yields of 700-800 jin/mu. From the collected samples, due to different varieties, there are relatively large differences in wheat ear length and grain number. Due to weather reasons, wheat aphids are generally occurring, and pesticide spraying needs to be done two to three times, once in the late jointing stage and once around flowering.
In the wheat field at Nanshengang, Sister Ma said that in previous years wheat yields were about 700-800 jin, but this year's yield is still hard to say; wheat aphids are relatively serious, and pesticide has already been applied twice. Local farmers basically have no awareness of varieties, and most farmers sell after the new grain harvest; at present, stored grain is mostly used as food ration, with no intention to sell.
