Double-season super rice early-season yield reaches up to 738.5 kg per mu
On the 18th, an expert panel invited by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Agriculture conducted an acceptance evaluation in Xingning City, Guangdong Province, of the research project on "annual per-mu yield of 3,000 jin for South China double-season super rice," led by "father of hybrid rice" Yuan Longping's team. After on-site yield measurement, the expert panel announced that the project's early-season average per-mu yield was 703.9 kg, with the highest yield reaching 738.5 kg, laying a solid foundation for a double-season per-mu yield of 3,000 jin.
Tang Xiangru, a professor at South China Agricultural University and one of the project's guiding experts, told reporters that the project covers 110 mu and adopts the model of "‘Chaoyou 1000’ variety + double-season super rice strong-source active-sink high-quality rice (strong source refers to enhancing leaf photosynthesis, active sink refers to improving rice grain activity and increasing starch content, high-quality rice refers to improving the taste and quality of rice) cultivation technology + pot-seedling mechanical transplanting."
"Our country's rice technology is already at the international advanced level. If a double-season per-mu yield of 3,000 jin can be achieved this time, it will be another new world record," Yuan Longping said.
In October 2014, the "Y Liangyou 900" variety led by Yuan Longping achieved a breakthrough of 1,000 kg per mu in a 100-mu research demonstration plot in Longshan, Hunan.
