Leading agricultural enterprise can enter the Fortune Global 500: Representative Zhu Yicai speaks out
China Jiangsu Beijing report: On March 4, Zhu Yicai, a deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of Yurun Group, said in Beijing during a joint interview with China Jiangsu Net—Tencent that supporting the development of agricultural enterprises, especially leading agricultural enterprises, is of great significance, and that leading enterprises have an obvious effect in driving farmers to increase income and employment.
At this year's Two Sessions, Zhu Yicai put forward a proposal to continue increasing support for agricultural industrialization and leading enterprises.
He wrote in the proposal that implementing the strategy of coordinating urban and rural development and carrying out the policy of cities supporting rural areas and industry promoting agriculture is a fundamental measure for solving the “three rural issues” and achieving the goal of moderate prosperity. Achieving coordinated urban and rural development requires the joint efforts of the whole society, and leading enterprises in agricultural industrialization are a vital force. The relationship between leading enterprises and the “three rural issues” is not a simple customer and buyer-seller relationship, two separate skins, but a community of interests based on the “three rural issues” and serving the “three rural issues”; the industrial chain links urban and rural areas, and the interest chain links industry and agriculture, making them an effective vehicle for cities supporting rural areas and industry promoting agriculture.
The report of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out “supporting the development of agricultural industrialization and leading enterprises.” This year's No. 1 Central Document further required “supporting leading enterprises in improving their radiation and driving capacity, increasing special funds for agricultural industrialization, supporting the construction of standardized bases, and building agricultural industrialization demonstration zones.” Zhu Yicai believes that putting forward support for the development of agricultural industrialization under the broad background of coordinating urban and rural development is of great significance, and that it is an important force for ensuring the supply of agricultural products and stabilizing the market.
He emphasized that this response to the financial crisis further highlights the important role of leading enterprises in safeguarding income growth, safeguarding employment, and expanding domestic demand. At the same time, it also exposed prominent problems such as the small scale and weak strength of China's leading enterprises in agricultural industrialization, scientific and technological innovation and management innovation failing to keep up, and weak risk resistance and competitiveness. For example, in the meat processing industry, the scale of one Tyson company in the United States may match the total of seven or eight leading enterprises in our country; in the slaughtering industry, one company in Denmark accounts for 80% of that country's share, while the top three enterprises in our country account for less than 5% of the national total.
Accelerating development after the financial crisis is a very rare opportunity for China's leading enterprises in agricultural industrialization. It is suggested that the state increase support for the field of agricultural industrialization in finance, taxation, and fiscal areas, focus on cultivating a group of national-level leading enterprises, and form scale advantages. Support leading enterprises in participating in the national reserve plan for important agricultural products. And giving play to the production capacity and purchasing and storage advantages of leading enterprises is conducive to preventing large fluctuations in the agricultural product market and maintaining market stability. At the same time, guidance and services for leading enterprises in agricultural industrialization should be strengthened.
Zhu Yicai said that last year Yurun's five major industries achieved 45 billion in sales, and the slaughtering industry last year reached 25 million head, equivalent to the output of Denmark, the world's largest pork exporter. “Yurun has a dream of entering the Fortune Global 500. If by 2015 it can slaughter 100 million head, this industry alone can enter the Fortune Global 500. Logistics net investment this year will exceed 30 billion, and by 2015 it is expected to break one hundred billion. In addition, the commercial group and real estate group are expected to break 30 to 50 billion by 2015.”
