More than 200 local agriculture bureau extension technicians and large-scale professional fruit tree growers attended the training. The training class was conducted in a multimedia format. Dr. Yang Weihai gave a detailed presentation of cultivation techniques covering orchard site selection and planning, seedling propagation, orchard establishment, cultivation management, and integrated pest and disease prevention and control. Deputy Director Li Duanqi provided on-site guidance in a macadamia nut orchard.

Yangchun City is located in the southwest of Guangdong Province, is currently under the administration of Yangjiang City, lies in the middle and upper reaches of the Moyang River, borders Enping to the east, Yangdong, Yangxi and Dianbai to the south, Gaozhou and Xinyi to the west, and Luoding, Yunfu, Xinxing and other cities (counties) to the north. Mashui mandarin, also known as Mashui sweet mandarin, is a famous specialty of Yangchun City. It is named after its place of origin, Mashui Town, and has a cultivation history of more than 300 years. It is one of the four famous mandarins of Guangdong. Mashui mandarin has a golden yellow peel that is smooth and glossy, a moderate fruit size, and a neat and attractive shape. It is known for its thin peel, few seeds, clear sweetness and melting texture, and because it is harvested before the Spring Festival it has become a rare New Year mandarin (luck) for many consumers. It enjoys a relatively high reputation in Guangdong Province as well as in Hong Kong, Macao and Southeast Asia, and demand has consistently exceeded supply, with prices 3-3.5 times higher than other New Year mandarins. However, in recent years, due to damage from citrus huanglongbing, the area has dropped from the original 3.8 ten-thousand mu to only more than 5 thousand mu now.
