High returns from the grid-pool fish-lotus polyculture model
The grid-pool fish-lotus polyculture technique involves partitioning a hardened lotus pool with roof tiles, hard boards and the like into small grids of 2-4 sq m each, planting lotus within the grids, yielding an average of 0.5 wan kg of lotus and 400-450 kg of fish per mu of water surface, with a net return of over 10,000 yuan per mu. This technique can make use of waste pits, wasteland, river beach land and scattered corner plots to build grid-pool fish-lotus polyculture systems; it features small investment, low cost, quick returns and high benefits, is suitable for vigorous development by countless rural households, and has very broad prospects for extension.

Can wastewater from snake pools be reused after treatment?
In the arid regions of the north, water resources are relatively scarce and limited. Especially in spring, when "spring rain is as precious as oil," draining the wastewater from the pool would be a waste, and besides, the flowers, grass, and trees at the snake farm all need water too. Why not reuse the wastewater? After all, the water in the snake pools (ditches) is generally changed quite frequently, so it would not reach a point where it cannot be reused. At my snake garden, I tried adding some oxidizing disinfectants and deworming drugs to the wastewater in the proportion for mixing with water, and after stirring evenly, I used it on trial as if it were clean water. The result was actually quite good, truly achieving two goals at once, with no harm to watering the grass, deworming, disinfecting, and retaining moisture.
