China State Farms: The Journey from Nanniwan
In past years, Nanniwan was nothing but barren hills; today's Nanniwan is the good Jiangnan of northern Shaanxi. This northern Shaanxi folk song, popular across the land, celebrates the "first plow" of China's state farm cause. In 1939, in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Revolutionary Base Area, the war situation was urgent and supplies were scarce. Facing

Corn price fluctuation risks remain in the outlook, North China market needs caution
Since mid-December, corn prices in the North China production area have fluctuated quite frequently, overall going through a process of decline-rebound-decline. On one hand, the weather improved, corn supply in North China recovered quickly, and enterprises saw increased arrivals, but downstream demand could not absorb it effectively, and the market pattern shifted again from a period of tight supply to a situation of oversupply, with prices continuing to fall reasonably as the market expected. On the other hand, grain moisture content was relatively high, and enterprises interested in low-moisture grain sources were forced to raise purchase prices, which in turn drove prices to stop falling and stabilise, and combined with increased outflow of some grain sources, prices in some areas even rebounded slightly. As of now, the ex-factory price of 14.5% moisture third-grade corn at deep-processing enterprises in Weifang, Shandong is 1880-1940 yuan/tonne, down about 20 yuan/tonne from last weekend, with a few enterprises seeing slightly larger declines; the ex-factory price in Shijiazhuang, Hebei is around 1740 yuan/tonne, down about 20 yuan/tonne from last weekend. It is expected that in the short term North China corn will remain stable with a weak bias, and prices will fall more in areas where farmers are more active in selling grain.

Strategic Reflections on China's Agriculture Going Global

Actively Responding to the Impact of Climate Change on China's Agricultural Production
Against the backdrop of global warming, the frequency and intensity of extreme drought events are steadily intensifying, and China's agricultural production is increasingly affected by extreme drought events. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that from the 1950s to the first decade of this century, the affected area of China's crops doubled, and the damaged area increased by 2.8 times; over the same period, the severity of the damage increased markedly, with the damage rate among affected areas rising from 32% to 58%; in addition, the scope of impact of extreme drought events expanded from the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in the 1950s to the vast areas of Northeast China, the northwest interior and the southwest today. Improving agriculture's capacity to adapt to climate change is an important component of implementing the national master plan for climate change adaptation and is crucial to safeguarding China's food security.
