Characteristics of Western Pumpkin Varieties

Dongsheng: Prefers a cool climate, is not heat-tolerant, and has relatively strong resistance to powdery mildew. The fruit is thick and flat-spherical, weighing about 1.5-2 kg. The rind is golden-red and strikingly bright in color. The flesh is orange, mealy, sweet, and excellent in flavor. It takes about 90-95 days from sowing to harvest, and about 45-50 days from flowering to harvest. The later it is harvested, the more mealy and sweet the flesh becomes, and the stronger its storage capacity. In cultivation, note the following: Suitable sowing time: a cool climate is preferable, about November to January of the following year in the south; sufficient sunlight is needed, and when sunlight is insufficient, green spots easily appear on the fruit surface.

Libai: The plant grows robustly and vigorously, with large, mid-set leaves. The fruit is thick and flat-spherical, the rind is white, and the fruit weighs about 3 kg. The flesh is bright yellow, mealy in texture, and the fruit is especially resistant to storage and transportation. It takes about 100 days from sowing to harvest, and about 50-55 days from flowering to harvest.

Ruifu: The plant grows robustly. The fruit is thick and flat, the rind is grayish-green, and the fruit weighs about 2 kg. The blossom end is slightly protruding, the flesh is orange-yellow, mealy, and sweet, with excellent quality. This variety is cold-tolerant but not heat-tolerant. The suitable sowing time in the south is about November to January of the following year. Cultivation during high-temperature periods makes it prone to viral diseases. It takes about 100 days from sowing to harvest, and about 50-55 days after flowering to harvest.

Yipin: Early-maturing. The fruit is flat-round, the rind is greenish-black with slight grayish-green mottling, and the fruit weighs about 1-1.5 kg. The flesh is orange-yellow, mealy in texture, low in water, sweet, and excellent in quality. It takes about 95 days from sowing to harvest, and about 45-50 days from flowering to harvest.

Ji'an: The plant grows vigorously and yields abundantly. The fruit is thick and flat with glossy black skin, has furrows and ribs on the surface, and the fruit is neat and uniform. The flesh is orange-yellow, mealy, and of excellent quality.
