Pond Farming of Bullfrogs: Build the Pond Well and Manage Water Quality
Pond farming of bullfrogs is one of the common methods of producing commercial frogs at present, referring to the whole process of taming, fattening and bringing bullfrogs to market in artificially built ponds. Bullfrogs grow quickly, eat a wide range of foods and have strong adaptability, so as long as the environment is properly controlled, pond farming can achieve relatively stable output, making it suitable for farmers and farms with a certain water supply.
When building a pond, water source and the surrounding environment should be given priority. The pond should be chosen in a place with clean water quality, convenient drainage and irrigation, and far from noise and pollution sources. The pond banks should be tamped solid to prevent escape, and escape-prevention netting or walls should be set up around the perimeter, at a height suitable for preventing bullfrogs from climbing out. Part of the pond can be left as shallow water and land for bullfrogs to come ashore to rest and feed, and aquatic plants can be appropriately planted on the water surface, which helps with shading and purifying water quality.
In terms of feeding management, bullfrogs like live bait, and after taming they can also eat compound feed. Daily feeding should be done at fixed times, in fixed places and in fixed amounts, and adjusted flexibly according to weather and water temperature. When the water temperature is too low or too high, bullfrogs eat less, so the feeding amount should be reduced accordingly to avoid leftover bait accumulating and spoiling the water quality.
Water quality management is a key part of pond frog farming. The water should be changed regularly to keep the water body clean, and leftover bait and feces should be cleaned up in time. In hot seasons, pay attention to deepening the water level or taking shading measures. At the same time, do a good job of disease prevention: disinfect the pond before stocking, and during farming pay attention to the activity and body surface condition of the bullfrogs. If abnormalities are found, isolate and handle them in time, which can effectively reduce losses caused by disease.
