The Sichuan-Tibet Black Pig is a black-haired local pig breed resource distributed across the western Sichuan Plateau and eastern Tibet, long adapted to the high-altitude mountain environment with large day-night temperature differences. It has a relatively compact body, mostly black hair, tolerates cold and coarse feed, and is an important pig breed in local traditional farming.

The most prominent characteristics of this pig breed are strong adaptability and good meat quality. Because it grows in plateau regions, the Sichuan-Tibet Black Pig grows relatively slowly and reaches sexual maturity late, but its muscle fibers are finer, its fat is evenly distributed, and its meat has a rich aroma, making it suitable for traditional cured and smoked products such as bacon and ham.

In terms of farming methods, production areas mostly adopt a model combining grazing and supplementary feeding, letting the pigs forage for wild vegetables and green fodder on hillsides and in forests during the day, and supplementing with local feeds such as corn, highland barley and wheat bran in the morning and evening. Pens should be located in high, dry, well-ventilated spots, with attention paid to cold protection and warmth in winter, and bedding kept dry and clean.

During the breeding process, attention must also be paid to disease prevention and control, vaccinating according to schedule and carrying out regular deworming and disinfection. Because the growth cycle is relatively long, farmers should reasonably plan the time to market, pay attention to feed formulation, and avoid single-nutrient diets affecting pig development, thereby balancing farming profits and meat quality.
