How Much Does a Dairy Cow Cost and the Factors That Affect the Price
How much a dairy cow costs is one of the questions people preparing to enter the breeding industry care about most. In reality, there is no uniform market price for dairy cows; prices vary considerably between regions and batches, usually ranging from several thousand yuan to tens of thousands of yuan, depending on the condition of the cow itself and the market at the time.
The main factors affecting the price of a dairy cow are breed, age, parity and milk production performance. For common breeds such as the Holstein, if the cow is well proportioned, has well-developed udders and stable milk production, the price will naturally be higher; heifers, pregnant cows and cows in lactation are also often quoted differently. In addition, whether the animal has passed quarantine and whether it has pedigree records will likewise affect the final transaction price.
When choosing, you should not focus only on price. When selecting a Holstein, attention is paid to eight points of observation, that is, careful observation of body conformation and appearance, udder, limbs and hooves, and general condition, so as to pick healthy, disease-free animals as far as possible. Before buying, check the quarantine certificate and learn about the vaccination situation to avoid bringing sick cows back to the farm. During long-distance transport, attention should also be paid to reducing stress so the cow can adapt to the new environment as quickly as possible.
It should be noted that buying a cow is only one investment; the later feeding and management also require effort. Dairy cows need plenty of roughage and succulent feed daily, and in cold winters and hot seasons, warmth and cooling measures must be done well, with hygiene and disease prevention carried out according to schedule. Only when these links are done solidly can dairy cows produce more milk and can the economic benefits of breeding be guaranteed.
