Summer Black grape is an early-ripening seedless table grape variety, originally from Japan, bred by crossing a tetraploid variety with a seedless variety, and belongs to the triploid type. After being introduced into our country, this variety was promoted fairly quickly, and it is now cultivated in many grape-producing regions across the country, making it one of the common black grapes on the market.

In terms of fruit characteristics, the clusters of Summer Black grape are mostly conical, the berries are set fairly tightly, and the skin is purple-black to blue-black, covered with a layer of white bloom. The flesh tends to be firm and crisp, seedless, with a relatively high sugar content and a rich flavor; the skin is fairly thin and can be eaten together with the flesh. Because it is naturally seedless and the berries tend to be small, plant growth regulators are often applied around the flowering period in production to promote berry enlargement and improve marketability.

For cultivation, Summer Black grape vines are fairly vigorous and prefer an environment with ample light and good ventilation; plots with deep soil and good drainage are suitable for planting. In routine management, attention should be paid to reasonable training and pruning and to controlling the crop load, so as to avoid excessive fruit set leading to a decline in quality. In rainy seasons, attention should also be paid to the control of common fungal diseases such as downy mildew and gray mold; using greenhouse forcing cultivation helps the fruit ripen and reach the market earlier.

When selecting fruit, you can choose berries with intact clusters, an even bloom, plump berries, and a firm attachment to the pedicel; such grapes are usually fresher. Summer Black grape is mainly eaten fresh; its flesh is firm and relatively tolerant of storage and transport, and it tastes even better after refrigeration, making it a quite popular grape variety in summer.
