The sago palm, whose scientific name is Cycas revoluta, is a common plant grown for its foliage and form, and it gets its name from its hard trunk and slow growth. It stays evergreen all year round and has an ancient, dignified shape, and it is often used for courtyard landscaping, placement by the front door and indoor container growing, so its market price has always been a topic of interest for growers and enthusiasts.

The differences in sago palm prices come mainly from the size and form of the plant itself. Generally speaking, the younger the seedling and the shorter the plant, the lower the price, and small seedlings with few leaves are an entry-level choice; while plants that have been grown in the ground for many years with thick, tall trunks rise clearly to a higher price level. In addition, multi-headed sago palms, curved shapes or old-stump bonsai are often considerably more expensive than ordinary single-trunk plants because of their long cultivation cycle and strong ornamental value.

The place of origin and the sales channel also affect the market. In warm southern production areas or nursery bases, supply is abundant and prices are usually more affordable; when plants are shipped to flower markets elsewhere through middlemen, or sent through e-commerce platforms, the price rises accordingly after packaging and transport costs are added. Seasonal changes in market supply and demand also cause the market to fluctuate to some extent.

When buying, you should not focus only on the price, but even more on the health of the plant. Plants with deep green, glossy leaves, stiff leaf stalks and roots free of rot or mold are more worth buying. Sago palms are not complicated to care for; they are drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging, so watering should be on the dry side rather than the wet side, and placing them in a spot with plenty of light and good ventilation allows you to enjoy them for a long time.
