A Full Analysis of Nanjiang Yellow Goat Prices in Sichuan and the Factors That Influence Them
The Nanjiang Yellow Goat is a local meat-type goat breed native to Nanjiang County, Bazhong City, Sichuan Province. It was developed through long-term selective breeding and is known for relatively fast growth, good meat production performance, and adaptability to mountain raising. It is one of the better-known goat breeds in China. At present, besides Sichuan, quite a few other provinces have also introduced and raised it.
There is no uniform standard for Nanjiang Yellow Goat prices in Sichuan; they are usually affected by factors such as the age in months, body weight, sex, and purpose of the goats. Breeding goats, especially breeding bucks and breeding does, generally cost more than commercial fattening goats, and there is also a clear price gap between lambs and adult goats. In addition, market supply and demand, seasonal changes in consumption, and fluctuations in feed costs all drive prices up and down.
Farmers planning to buy goats are advised to first visit the local livestock trading market or a licensed breeding goat farm to learn the quoted prices on site, and to compare multiple sources before making a decision. When selecting goats, pay attention to their mental state, coat luster, body structure, and health condition, and ask for a quarantine certificate to avoid buying sick goats or goats passed off as better than they are.
From a farming perspective, the Nanjiang Yellow Goat tolerates roughage well and has fairly strong disease resistance, making it suitable for a raising method that combines grazing with supplementary feeding; the entry threshold is relatively low for farmers in mountainous areas. Its meat is tender and has a relatively mild gamy odor, so it enjoys good market acceptance. Overall, prices change at any time, so farmers should keep up with market trends, arrange the timing of sales reasonably, and avoid blindly chasing high prices.
