Aloe Vera's Beauty Benefits and Everyday Skincare Uses
Aloe vera is a common succulent plant with thick, fleshy leaves that release a transparent gel-like sap when cut open. This sap is rich in polysaccharides, amino acids and a variety of vitamins, and has long been widely used in skincare; many moisturizing and soothing skincare products on the market use aloe vera as their main ingredient.
Aloe vera's beauty benefits are mainly seen in two areas: moisturizing and soothing. The polysaccharides in the gel form a moisturizing film on the skin's surface, helping to reduce moisture loss and keep the skin hydrated; for skin that turns red and hot after sun exposure, applying aloe vera gel has a certain cooling and calming effect and can relieve discomfort. In addition, aloe vera gel has a light, fresh texture and is suitable for everyday use on most skin types.
When using fresh aloe vera for beauty care, people generally choose thick-leaved varieties such as the common Aloe vera (Curacao aloe). Wash the leaves, peel off the outer skin, and take out the transparent gel in the middle to apply directly. Note that not all aloe varieties are suitable for skincare; some ornamental varieties may irritate the skin, so before use you should do a small patch test behind the ear or on the inner wrist, and only apply it to the face after confirming there is no allergic reaction such as redness or itching.
Another reminder: the outer skin of aloe vera contains anthraquinones such as aloin, which can easily cause skin irritation or allergies, so when using it for skincare you should try to avoid the yellow sap portion. People with sensitive skin, pregnant women, and those with broken skin should ideally consult a doctor before use. When buying aloe-based skincare products, you should also pay attention to whether the ingredients and their amounts comply with regulations, and avoid using them blindly.
