Planting flowers, grasses and trees in the yard adds a touch of nature to the home environment
Planting flowers, grasses and trees in the yard is a common way for many families to beautify their living environment. Yard space is relatively open, and the soil conditions are better than those in flower pots. Plant roots can spread freely, so growth tends to be more vigorous than that of potted plants, and care is relatively worry-free.
When choosing plants, first observe the light and ventilation conditions of the yard. A sunny yard can grow light-loving flowers such as Chinese rose (Rosa chinensis), lantana (Lantana camara) and pomegranate, and is also suitable for arranging some flowering shrubs so that the yard has flowers to enjoy in different seasons; corners with insufficient light are suitable for shade-tolerant ground cover plants and foliage plants. Northern yards should give priority to cold-hardy varieties, while southern yards should pay attention to the effects of high temperature and high humidity in summer on plants.
In terms of layout, pay attention to height pairing and layered variation. Plant low-growing flowers at the edges, arrange shrubs in the middle, and at walls or where trellises are set up, you can plant climbing plants such as climbing roses and wisteria. If conditions permit, you can also plant one or two fruit trees, which can be enjoyed for their ornamental value and also harvested. Before planting, improve the soil and ensure good drainage to avoid root rot caused by waterlogging during the rainy season.
Daily care mainly consists of watering, fertilizing and pruning. Ground-planted plants hold water well, so watering does not need to be as frequent as for potted plants, but fertilizer should be supplemented appropriately during the peak growing season. After flowering, promptly cut off spent flowers and overly dense branches, which can both keep the plant shape attractive and help flowering the following year. As long as you choose the right varieties and combine them reasonably, the yard can have scenery and vitality in all four seasons.
