Wanli is the name of a cultivated variety among Chinese orchids (guolan), belonging to the horticultural lines of plants in the genus Cymbidium of the family Orchidaceae, and it is often listed and introduced separately in traditional orchid records and among orchid enthusiasts. Like varieties such as Green Bird Beak (Luniao) and Crystal Lotus, Wanli attracts attention for its fine flowers and foliage alike, and it is one of the more common names in home orchid growing and variety collecting. Because names and records differ from place to place, when introducing it, it is advisable to rely on the actual leaf and flower characteristics of the plant.

From an ornamental point of view, Wanli carries on the typical character of Chinese orchids: the leaves are slender and graceful, the plant form is elegant, and when it blooms the flowers are well formed, often with a light, delicate fragrance. Variety identification mainly depends on a combination of characteristics such as leaf shape, leaf color, petal type and floral fragrance, and plants of different ages and under different care conditions will also perform somewhat differently. For this reason, orchid enthusiasts often place more importance on the overall health of the plant and whether the source is reliable when buying.

In terms of care, Wanli has requirements similar to most Chinese orchids: it likes loose, airy, well-draining potting medium, commonly mixed from materials such as bark and Kanuma soil. Watering should follow a wet-dry cycle, avoiding long-term water accumulation in the pot that causes root rot, and the best position is in bright, indirect light with good ventilation. During the peak growing season, dilute fertilizer can be applied frequently but lightly; in summer, pay attention to shading and cooling, while in winter, control water appropriately and keep it warm.

Common problems mostly center on root rot, scorched leaf tips and pests and diseases, most of which are related to overwatering and poor ventilation, and they generally recover gradually once management is adjusted in time. Besides its ornamental value, varieties like Wanli also carry the interest of traditional orchid culture; beginners are advised to first master the basic care methods, then gradually introduce plants according to their own environmental conditions.
