Taizhou is located on the southeastern coast of Zhejiang, bordering the East China Sea to the east, and is one of the areas where typhoons make landfall and exert influence relatively frequently. Every summer and autumn, typhoons from the Northwest Pacific often bring disastrous weather such as strong winds, torrential rain and storm surges to Taizhou. The so-called Taizhou typhoon generally refers to the typhoon weather process affecting the Taizhou area, as well as the various disasters it triggers.

In terms of timing, typhoons affecting Taizhou are mostly concentrated from midsummer to early autumn, which is precisely the busy stage for rice growth, fruit trees bearing fruit and facility-based agricultural production. The passage of a typhoon is often accompanied by strong winds and short-term heavy rainfall, which can easily cause crops to lodge, waterlogging in the fields and damage to greenhouse film; coastal aquaculture ponds may also suffer losses due to wind, waves and overtopping of embankments.

For growers, before a typhoon arrives, greenhouses should be reinforced in a timely manner, field ditches should be cleared and dredged, and ripe melons, fruits and vegetables should be harvested early as much as possible to reduce fallen and rotten fruit. Farmers raising aquatic products need to inspect pond embankments, aerators and power supply lines, and if necessary, lower the water level in advance or transfer fry and seedlings. After the typhoon passes, efforts should be made promptly to drain water and reduce waterlogging, right lodged plants and apply appropriate supplementary fertilizer, while also paying attention to preventing and controlling diseases that easily occur in high-temperature and high-humidity environments.

Understanding the activity patterns and key prevention points of Taizhou typhoons is very helpful for local farmers to arrange farming activities reasonably and reduce disaster losses. It is advisable to pay more attention to typhoon warning information issued by meteorological departments in normal times, formulate emergency plans in advance, and integrate disaster prevention and mitigation into daily production management.
