History: In 1996, Yang Shanming of Linhai dug it up on Baishuiyang Mountain in Linhai.
Characteristics: The outer petals have contracted bases and flared corners, are short and broad, numbering from eight to more than a dozen, making it very hard to tell which are outer petals and which are inner petals. The leaves are slanted and upright, short and broad, thick and hard in texture.

"Taizhou Mudan" is a peony-petal-type wonder flower of the Spring Orchid. The peony is renowned throughout the world for its magnificence and richness. Broad, expansive and noble as splendor.
Although "Taizhou Mudan" is a peony-petal-type wonder flower, its petal shape is relatively broad, and the flower shape is neat rather than messy, while its overall appearance vividly resembles a lotus flower in full bloom.
Among Chinese orchid wonder and butterfly flowers, few have especially fine petal shapes. Among Chinese orchid peony-petal flower types, few have straight, non-curling tongues. Among Chinese orchid multi-petal wonder flowers, few have neat, uniform petal shapes either. Yet "Taizhou Mudan," as a Spring Orchid peony-petal-type wonder butterfly flower, combines beautiful petal shape, a straight non-curling tongue, and neatly arranged petals. Its outer petals are relatively large in flower shape, relatively broad in petal shape, and the petal shape is flat with a slight micro-cup, and the contraction and flare are also fairly distinct. The inner petals are smaller in petal shape, yet shorter, rounder and more endearing. And among the inner petals, the tongue petals and the butterfly-transformed parts all have relatively flat petal shapes, unlike ordinary peony-petal-type flowers that are curled and twisted; the entire flower is neat and facing upward, and each petal also opens obliquely upward, its blooming form just like a pure lotus, standing tall above the blue waves.
