Color Characteristics and Care Methods of the Shanpao Green Orchid
Shanpao Green is a green-flowered variety among Chinese orchids, and is mostly classified by orchid enthusiasts into the green-flowered category of Cymbidium goeringii (Spring Orchid). Its name contains the word "green," which highlights its most distinctive feature: the flowers present a fresh and elegantly refined bluish-green tone. The plant habit is similar to that of ordinary Spring Orchids, with slender leaves, and the flower stalk also tends toward bluish-green, giving the whole plant an especially plain and pure appearance when in bloom.
In terms of appreciation, green flowers have long been valued by orchid enthusiasts. Shanpao Green takes its bluish-green flower color as the main point of interest; whether the color is pure and even, and whether the green is bright and lively, are important references for judging quality. Plants with pure flower color and overall harmony are often more welcomed by the market, and are also often used as a reference for comparison among green-flowered varieties.
As for care, Shanpao Green can be managed by referring to the general methods for Spring Orchids. The growing medium should be loose, breathable and well-draining; place it daily in a well-ventilated spot with scattered light, avoiding direct scorching sun. Water according to the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry between waterings; during the growing season keep the potting soil slightly moist, and in winter appropriately reduce watering and provide a low-temperature environment, which is beneficial for the normal development of flower buds.
It should be noted that the flower color of such green-flowered varieties is easily affected by the environment. When light is too strong, the flower color may become paler and yellowish, while under conditions of suitable temperature difference and soft light, the green becomes more pronounced. To grow the ideal green flowers, one needs to carefully adjust light, water and fertilizer according to the local climate, and gradually accumulate experience through management.
