Qingtian stone Fengmen Qing is a precious seal stone produced in Qingtian, Zhejiang.
Qingtian stone Fengmen Qing is a precious variety of Qingtian stone, named after the Fengmen mining area in the Shankou area of Qingtian County, Zhejiang Province, and together with Dengguang Dong (Light Frozen) it ranks among the finest grades of Qingtian stone. It belongs to the pyrophyllite type of seal stone, and since ancient times it has been an important material for making seals and for scholars' collections, holding a very high status in seal stone culture.
The most striking features of Fengmen Qing lie in its color and texture. Its main tone is pale cyan, with a light, plain and elegant color; some pieces carry a faint yellow or blue tinge. Its texture is fine and warm, with relatively high translucency, and it is often described as green as jade, elegant without being gaudy. Its stone nature is relatively stable, with few cracks and impurities; held in the hand it feels warm and smooth, comfortable both to view and to handle.
In terms of application, Fengmen Qing is mainly used for seal carving and for carving small scholar's desk items. It is moderate in hardness, cuts smoothly under the knife, and produces clear seal impressions, so it is deeply welcomed by seal carvers and seal stone enthusiasts. Because high-quality material is scarce, Fengmen Qing of good appearance has always been much sought after on the collectors' market, with high ornamental and collectible value.
For daily care, Fengmen Qing should avoid high-temperature exposure to the sun, sudden cold and heat, and knocks from hard objects. Ordinarily it is enough to wipe it with a soft cloth and keep it clean; when it is not handled for a long time, it can be stored in a cool place. When selecting pieces, be aware that the market contains dyed and treated stones or stones of other types passed off as this one. A preliminary judgment can be made by observing whether the color is natural, whether the structure is even, and whether the light transmission appears harmonious. For pieces of higher value, it is advisable to ask an experienced person or a professional institution to help verify them.
