Nalan is an ornamental variety among Chinese orchids (Cymbidium), and its name carries a strong literati air, easily calling to mind the clear and gentle mood in the works of the Qing dynasty poet Nalan Xingde. This type of orchid has a dignified plant form, graceful leaf posture, and elegant flower colors, drawing considerable attention in orchid-growing circles. Because many orchid nurseries around the country have introduced it, the seedlings on the market come from varying sources, and when buying, one needs to distinguish seedling condition and quality.

From an ornamental perspective, Nalan's leaves are slender and glossy, and the overall posture is open, sparse, and natural. When it blooms, the flower scape is upright, the flowers are delicate and mild, and the fragrance is clear, quiet, and lasting, matching the aesthetic orientation of traditional Oriental orchids. The specific flowering period varies with cultivation environment and regional climate, and well-cared-for plants often bloom steadily year after year.

In terms of care, Nalan has habits similar to other Chinese orchids (Cymbidium), preferring loose, breathable, slightly acidic growing medium, which can be mixed from materials such as bark and Kanuma soil or Ishi-kin stone. In daily care, it should be placed in a spot with ample scattered light and good ventilation; watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry between waterings, avoiding long-term water accumulation in the pot. During the peak growing season, dilute fertilizer can be applied frequently; in winter, take care to protect against cold and keep warm, and maintain a suitable day-night temperature difference, which helps flower bud differentiation and blooming the following year.

Common problems are mainly scorched leaf tips and root rot. The former is mostly related to dry air and overly concentrated fertilizer solution, while the latter is usually caused by overly frequent watering or compacted growing medium. Once discovered, management methods should be adjusted promptly. As an orchid type with both ornamental and exchange value, Nalan is suitable for placement in courtyards, balconies, or halls, as it can both decorate the environment and reflect the aesthetic taste of the orchid grower.
