Guizhou orchids is the collective term people use for the ornamental plants of the orchid family (Orchidaceae) that originate within the borders of Guizhou. Guizhou sits on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, where mountains and hills roll on without a break, the climate is warm and humid, clouds and mist are frequent, rainfall is abundant, and the forest vegetation is in good condition, providing superior natural conditions for the growth and reproduction of orchids; it is one of the important orchid distribution areas in the country.

In terms of varieties, the common Cymbidium plants in Guizhou include Chunlan (Cymbidium goeringii), Huilan (Cymbidium faberi), Hanlan (Cymbidium kanran), and Tu'erlan (Cymbidium lancifolium), while epiphytic orchids such as Dendrobium are also distributed among the mountain forests. Because the ecological environment is diverse, variant plants with high ornamental value, such as plain-hearted (suxin) types, colored-flower types, and butterfly-flower types, can often be found in the mountains; they have long been loved by orchid enthusiasts, and some collected-from-the-wild varieties enjoy a considerable reputation in orchid circles.

As for care, Guizhou orchids favor a warm, humid, well-ventilated environment with diffused light, and they dislike direct strong light and water accumulating in the pot. The growing medium should be loose, airy, and well-draining, and it is best to give it secondary treatment such as disinfection before use to reduce residual pathogens. In summer, with its high temperatures and high humidity, orchids are prone to diseases such as stem rot and soft rot, so attention must be paid to controlling water, providing shade, and strengthening ventilation.

When introducing plants, it is advisable to choose strong seedlings with robust root systems and plump growth, as the survival rate is better assured; after dividing plants or pruning, wounds should be treated promptly to promote healing and prevent pathogens from entering. In routine management, keep the potting soil moist but not waterlogged, and apply thin fertilizer frequently, so that the plants can grow steadily.

Guizhou orchids possess both ornamental value and cultural value, with elegant leaf forms and a faint, far-reaching floral fragrance, making them suitable for home orchid growing and horticultural cultivation. At the same time, attention should be paid to protecting wild resources, and obtaining seedlings through artificial propagation is advocated, so that this secluded grass of the mountains can achieve sustainable development.
